The model that is generated would be shared with the design team to help identify the components that make the building as energy efficient as possible. For this reason we start the energy modeling process very early in the design phase. This assists in making informed decisions about the building’s key elements such as its dimensions, exterior windows and HVAC system.
The three-dimensional model is updated throughout the design process. It can be used to analyze several factors including the effectiveness of using day lighting and shading devices as a means to reduce the energy usage. The result is an accurate utility cost for the building which can be used to identify specific energy savings. The model can also evaluate the occupants’ comfort based on the solar exposure, space temperature/humidity, lighting levels, and day lighting.
